Message from the Director
Our commitment to work closely with the communities to deliver sustainable and meaningful outcomes continued in 2022. Building on some of the projects already identified in earlier years, we strengthen our outreach and momentum, in key identified areas of water and environment conservation, primary education, skill development for employability and progression and road safety.
Our commitment to the Skill Development Centre (SDC) at Dahej in Western India continued with stronger investment in training women trainees to have them ready to join the workforce. The project successfully trained 424 girls across ITIs in ten states and two union territories, reinforcing our commitment to empowering women in the workforce. The project is also strongly aligned to the government's National Policy on Skill Development and Entrepreneurship-2015 and Skill India Mission - demonstrating our commitment to a key national priority.
As part of our school adoption projects, we worked closely to improve the quality of education as well as the infrastructure at Government Higher Secondary School, Gangaikondan in South India. Our focus was in four key areas:
- Specialized coaching for a batch of students to prepare for competitive entrance exams for engineering and medical streams.
- Career counselling for students to enable them to make informed choices.
- Remedial programs to bridge learning gaps for various students – who may not have the infrastructure or the learning environment in their homes and;
- Coaching sessions for identified students to excel in sports such as volleyball, kabaddi, and athletics, enhancing their fitness levels and encouraging their participation in district, state, and national-level tournaments.
This project has benefited nearly 1,300 students since inception and continues to be an inspiration for us to create a level playing field for the marginalized sections of society.
Our road safety project took shape in the form of installation of crash barriers at accident prone spots on one of the busiest highways in Northern India. Implemented in close co-ordination with key stakeholders including relevant government ministries, police departments and safety officials, the project has been recognized as being effective in preventing serious accidents and saving precious lives.
As part of our commitment to improve the physical and mental well-being of the communities that we operate in, we strengthened the infrastructure and outreach of our community health Centre, that is in our premises at Tirunuvelli plant in Southern India. There are several villages in the adjoining areas that do not have access to health care facilities and our community health Centre played a key role in ensuring access and improve of health care in the community. Our efforts included access to consultations, diagnostic tests, and medication, infrastructure improvement including Emergency medical care services, equipped with essential equipment such as a defibrillator, to respond promptly to critical health situations as well as state-of-the-art medical equipment, including specialized equipment for ophthalmology and physiotherapy .Additionally, our special medical camps provided a platform for the community to actively participate in health initiatives, fostering community engagement and facilitating access to medical services for the local population. The project has benefited almost 32,000 people to date.
A true measure of the success and growth of any enterprise is how it impacts the lives of the communities in a meaningful and sustainable way. Our efforts at making this happen at Yokohama Off-Highway Tires are always inspired by the commitment of our stakeholders and our employees who are pivotal to make this change happen. We remain committed to continue this journey.
