Message from the President

Yusuke Tabuchi

We established a tire sales company in 2007 to sell imported tires for the Indian market, and started operation of a production plant in 2014.
India, which became the world's most populous country in 2023, continues to grow remarkably in terms of GDP and motorization, and has already overtaken Japan as the world's third largest automobile market in terms of sales volume by 2022.
Not to be outdone by this rapid market expansion, we have been expanding our production capacity by four times in four years, starting production at our second plant in 2020, completing the second phase of production capacity expansion in 2021, and starting production at our third plant in 2023.
Tires, one of the key components of these growing automobiles, are increasingly demanded for their environmental performance and quality as environmental awareness rises.
In consideration of the environment, we are operating our business in a way that minimizes the environmental impact of our products until they are delivered to our customers, by using materials with low environmental impact, producing tires using the minimum amount of energy necessary, and eliminating waste in transportation. Our materials and production facilities are also designed for fuel-efficient tires, and we are compliant with the labeling regulations that will be in effect from 2024. In terms of quality, we have introduced and expanded a quality monitoring system for products, parts, facilities, and the environment that makes maximum use of the latest IT technology.
We have continued to renew our certification for occupational health and safety management system ISO 45001:2018, environmental management system ISO 14001:2015 certification, and quality management system ISO 9001:2015.
We have also obtained IATF16949:2016 certification for 2020 in conjunction with the start of OE supply.
With the management system as the axis, we set specific targets every year and operate a system of continuous improvement activities and follow-up with the participation of all employees to ensure the effective operation of the management system.
As part of our environmental preservation efforts, we began tree-planting activities in 2016 under the Yokohama Forever Forest Project, which aims to prevent global warming and raise environmental awareness. The tree planting conforms to the Miyawaki method of forestry, and we have been inviting government officers, residents, and students and teachers from nearby schools to participate in this project with the aim of strengthening our ties with the local community through this activity.
As part of its contribution to the local community, the company also collaborates with the local government and local residents to carry out activities such as street cleanups, awareness-raising, volunteer work, and support for socially vulnerable groups every year.
The impact of external factors such as Covid-19 after 2020, delivery date issues for chips and electrical components, and orders to suspend construction work due to the expansion of air pollution have continued to affect our business activities in unpredictable ways.
However, even under these difficult circumstances, we will expand our production and sales capacity at maximum speed by formulating and executing flexible business plans based on the uncertain environment in order to expand our business without interruption in India, a country with remarkable economic growth. By doing so, we will continue our efforts to become a company that is trusted by our stakeholders and the people of India with a sense of security and stability.

Organizational Governance

Strengthen the organization and system

We operate our organization with the aim of making an integrated production and sales group with good teamwork.
In particular, we have been expanding our production capacity quickly over the past few years, but we have kept personnel and organizational expansion to a minimum, and together with the management system by local Indian nationals, we have maintained a system for seamless communication and rapid decision-making in production, distribution, and sales.
To support this, we are promoting the use of IT in every aspect of our operations, from work flow to authority of duties, personnel system, communication, and so on.
At the same time, we focus on organizational health management by establishing an independent committee for whistle-blowing and conducting external audits to ensure sound organizational management.
Furthermore, in order to raise employees' awareness of legal compliance and internal rules, we provide compliance rule education at the time of hiring, periodic follow-up education, and external audits to raise employee awareness and familiarity with the rules.

Human Rights

Equal employment opportunities

With regard to the recruitment, assignment, and evaluation of employees, we do not discriminate on the basis of nationality, race, ethnicity, religion, gender, age, or gender identity, and we employ fairly and consistently without any prejudice in accordance with the company policy.
In particular, we have begun hiring female employees for production processes starting in 2022. We are also working to create a safe and secure work environment by deploying monitoring cameras in production processes, female nurses and security, and dedicated commuter buses, as well as building facilities exclusively for women and childcare facilities.
We also have a clear policy in place regarding unethical behavior and harassment in the workplace.
Our systems relating to the taking of disciplinary action against employees, handling of grievances, lodging of complaints etc. are implemented fairly in accordance with the Employee Code of Conduct, which specifies clear standards and procedures.

Labor Practices

Occupational safety and health

Basic Philosophy of Safety and Health

Safety and health are the basis of every operation and we aim to prevent occupational accidents while building up comfortable workplaces.

Basic Policies
  1. We shall prioritize the safety of each and every worker in all things, and improve safety activities based on the participation, actions, and cooperation of all employment ranks and management.
  2. We shall apply surely and certainly all laws and administrative policies regarding safety and health.
  3. We shall teach workers the importance of safety and health, and implement the necessary education and training.
  4. We shall strengthen liaison with the relevant cooperating companies to assure the safety and health of all people involved in work activities.
  5. We shall circulate PDCA and plan continuous improvements to eliminate hidden dangers involving work and equipment using the work safety and health management system.
  6. We shall thoroughly inculcate 2S based on the idea that “ship-shape and Bristol fashion is the basis of safety and health.”
  7. We shall promote the creation of a pleasant workplace to enable working with peace of mind, and actively support the formation of both healthy mind and body.
  8. We shall participate in preventing traffic accidents as a company that plays a role in the automobile manufacturing industry.

Safety and health is a fundamental aspect of working conditions, and we continue to prioritize this issue.
We are developing 4×4 activities based on ISO 45001: 2018 Occupational Health and Safety Management System, including risk assessment activities, activities to make facilities and people intrinsically safe, etc. In addition to the four aspects of people, mechanisms, facilities, and management, we have newly added psychological safety, health, environment, and engineering.

Making hands-on training and rules visible

In 2021, we integrated the Experiential Training Dojo into the newly established Monozukuri Dojo. We provide comprehensive safety education at the time of hiring, including company vision, rules of conduct in the workplace, education on the five senses, safety devices and disaster prevention measures in the manufacturing process, knowledge about products, knowledge about quality, knowledge about non-conforming products and past troubles, knowledge about equipment parts, etc., which are required as our employees before they are assigned to workplaces.
In FY2023, we continued to implement annual training and evaluation for all employees, including new hires.

COVID-19 Initiatives

Since the beginning of 2020, the whole world has been hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. In India, the impact of the pandemic was devastating, claiming many precious lives. At that time, we took all precautionary measures against COVID-19 to minimize the impact and loss of people and business.
As of 2023, everything has returned to normal in India. Although the precautionary measures taken at that time have been suspended, we are ready to deploy them immediately at any time, given the uncertainty of what might happen at any given moment.

National Safety Month

Every year in March, which is National Safety Month, the plant manager makes a safety declaration and safety pledge, hoists the safety flag and the national flag, and then makes a tour of the plant.
In addition, safety education and fire drills are conducted for each employee, and as safety awareness activities, safety slogans, safety quizzes, and safety posters are created and awards are given to the best entries.

By conducting fire drills and evacuation drills regularly, sometimes day and night, and sometimes unannounced,we ensure that we are prepared for emergencies and identify problems for improvement.

Reporting on chemical substance management status (Pollutant Release and Transfer Register (PRTR) Law compliance)

For handling of hazardous materials, we operate and manage the storage and handling (including non-routine times) of each substance in accordance with the contents stipulated in laws and regulations and manuals.
There have been no accidents while conducting periodic inspections and improvements based on the management system.

Noise, vibration and odor

Once a month, an external inspection company conducts monitoring and reports to the government.
In addition to the items regulated by law, we also set self-management items and self-management values, follow up at the environmental meeting, and discuss and determine the direction for further improvement.

Initiatives to Reduce Environmental Impact

As part of our activities to reduce CO2 emissions, we are systematically expanding our photovoltaic power generation facilities.
In the third phase, we plan to add 1,000 kW (1 Mw) in 2024 as the first phase and 500 kW (1.5 Mw) in 2025 as the second phase.
Ultimately, we plan to increase power generation capacity to 3.5 Mw, thereby proactively working to reduce CO2 emissions.
We are also actively promoting the efficient use of energy by introducing high-efficiency equipment to utility facilities and maintaining optimal operating conditions through real-time monitoring using digital technology.

Minimizing environmental accidents and risk

Leak Zero activities

As part of our safety and energy-saving activities, we are working to speed up improvements by organizing an improvement task force team in which all departments participate, as well as regular maintenance and TPM activities to eliminate leaks of water, steam, oil, powder, air, and heat (= zero leakage activities).
Through these activities, we are reducing environmental risks by maintaining heat and eliminating leaks, while also making continuous improvements such as saving resources and improving energy use efficiency.

Environment month

Every June, during Environment Month, we make a list of environmental risks, create an improvement action plan, and implement and evaluate the plan.
We also conduct activities to raise employee awareness by having employees create environmental slogans, environmental quizzes, and environmental posters, and awarding prizes to the best entries.

Fair Operating Practices

We have established an approval process for contracts, purchases, etc., and are implementing compliance training, as well as periodic operational reviews and external audits, in order to build and thoroughly implement a system that prevents the occurrence of fraud.

Consumer Issues

We started manufacturing the environmentally-friendly product Earth-1 in 2014. The state of India’s roads is poor, and potholes mean that the tire damage rate is high, so the redevelopment of specific tires has been highly regarded as supplying customers with an improved product.
Furthermore, in order to promote the timely development of products that meet the requirements and preferences of Indian customers, local staff members take the initiative from the planning stage to bring products to market that are in line with the actual conditions of the Indian market.

Response to complaints

Information received from customers is promptly deployed internally in accordance with procedures, analyzed for content and cause, and countermeasures, and improvement plans are formulated to improve product quality and other aspects as needed.

Community Involvement and Development

Relationship with the local societies

In our meetings with the government, NGOs, and local residents, we recognize that the improvement of the school education environment is a major issue, and we have been working on this issue as one of our major initiatives for the past several years. This year, we are working with the local government, NGOs, and schools to renovate dilapidated school buildings and classrooms in nearby public schools and to build new clean water fountains, hand washing stations, and safe toilets, and we are moving forward systematically to create a safe and secure educational environment.

Yokohama Forever Forest Activities

We participated in a tree-planting activity by the Clean & Green Association, an NGO in Bahadurgarh, Haryana, and donated 620 seedlings.
We also provided seedlings to 71 employees for tree planting near their homes.
And in October 2023, we plan to plant trees at our third-phase plant.
