Message from the General Manager

Noboru Takita

Y.T. Rubber (YTRC) is a company established in 2008 to supply natural rubber to the tire factories of the Yokohama Rubber Group. The factory is located in Suratthani Province, located on the east side of southern Thailand (northern Malay Peninsula), approximately 600 km south of Thailand's capital Bangkok. Thailand's total natural rubber production is approximately 4.8 million tons per year, making it the world's largest natural rubber producing country. Approximately two-thirds of this is produced in southern Thailand, and Surat Thani is one of the main production areas.
The area surrounding the factory is rich in nature, with extensive rubber plantations, palm plantations, and tropical rainforests.
Currently, Y.T. Rubber procures and processes rubber raw materials and supplies them to the Yokohama Rubber Group's tire production bases in Thailand, Japan, the United States, China, the Philippines, India, etc. for tire products including high-performance tires.
As a member of the Yokohama Rubber Group, we have obtained ISO9001, ISO14001, and FSC COC certification under our environmentally contributing company policy.
The water used for cleaning within the factory premises is settled and purified over a period of about two months using a complete circulation system, and the water recycling system continues.
Y.T. Rubber protects the surrounding natural environment and operates on the basis of coexistence with local residents.

Organizational Governance

In our multinational workplace environment where Japanese, Thai, and Myanmar employees collaborate, we emphasize the importance of embedding a strong compliance culture.
We create and distribute compliance cards in Thai and Myanmar, ensuring that all employees can understand basic rules and contact points in their native language.
Furthermore, we ensure awareness and adherence to our code of conduct through regular compliance training.

Interactions between employees

We value employee interaction and multicultural harmony, and regularly hold internal events such as traditional ceremonies based on Thai Buddhist culture, company sports days, and year-end parties. Japanese, Thai, and Myanmar employees interact with each other's cultures, fostering friendship and a spirit of cooperation.
We also actively participate in external activities such as sports tournaments, and we support local events through sponsorships.
As an environmental initiative, we have continuously planted approximately 5,000 saplings annually on our company premises since 2011, resulting in a cumulative total of over 60,000 trees planted to date. These saplings are cultivated by our employees themselves, who create seedling pots using seeds collected locally and nutrient-rich soil obtained from the natural rubber cleaning process.
We provide the grown saplings free of charge to interested local residents and farmers, contributing to regional greening and supporting their livelihoods. In addition, starting in 2024, we began cultivating and distributing fruit tree saplings (such as durian, jackfruit, and rambutan) in response to requests from local residents.

Activities for protecting safety and health

Our company aims for 'zero disasters' and conducts daily awareness campaigns to improve the safety consciousness of all employees. We strive to prevent accidents and ensure early response through routine safety patrols, regular safety training, and risk assessments.
We also reduce risks during work by regularly reviewing protective equipment and ensuring thorough selection and proper use of appropriate jigs for each task. In addition, we have installed AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators) and conduct training on their use, establishing a system for rapid life-saving response in emergencies.
We also actively collect and analyze accident case studies from other companies in the same industry to consider disaster prevention measures tailored to our own circumstances. We implement equipment improvements as needed, and we plan to enhance our disaster prevention equipment in 2025, including increasing the number of sprinklers.
Regarding evacuation drills, we encourage participation from employees living on the premises, their families, and staff from partner companies, striving to improve disaster response capabilities across the entire site.
Regarding traffic safety, we regularly remind employees to drive safely, especially before long holidays, and emphasize the importance of wearing helmets. As part of our community contribution, we also continuously donate helmets to nearby schools free of charge.
We ensure equal working conditions for all employees, regardless of nationality (Thai or Myanmar), by adhering to the law regarding health insurance and regular health check-ups.
Furthermore, we actively support government-led anti-drug campaigns, working to maintain the health and well-being of our employees and a safe living environment.

Energy-saving activities

Our company continuously promotes energy conservation activities, resulting in a year-on-year decrease in electricity and fuel consumption per unit of production.
We are actively installing LED lighting in both our offices and production areas, contributing to a reduction in electricity consumption.
The solar panels we began installing in 2024 are already producing significant results, further accelerating our efforts towards achieving a decarbonized society. We have also begun staggering production operating days by department to further increase the utilization rate of solar power.

Biodiversity preservation activities

Our company continuously monitors the fish and bird populations in our on-site retention pond and the adjacent Tapi River, working to preserve biodiversity.
We maintain good water quality in the retention pond, and we have created mounds (earthworks) around the pond, planting trees at a rate of approximately 5,000 per year since 2011. Through these improvements, the pond and its surroundings have become a natural habitat suitable for birds and fish, and thanks to the release of young fish and the natural inflow of water during the rainy season, a diverse range of fish species now thrives.
Once a year, we open this retention pond to the local community, and the event, where visitors can freely catch and take home fish, is very popular.
From the beginning, our factory has used a closed-loop water system with a settling pond. Over about two months, we gradually purify the water through settling, as well as activating it with oxygen, before reusing it. Under strict management, the treated factory water maintains a quality level nearly equivalent to that of the retention pond.
In the event that heavy rain requires us to temporarily transfer water from the settling pond to the retention pond, we conduct water quality tests beforehand to ensure safety. Furthermore, when discharging water from the retention pond to surrounding rivers, we confirm that it meets environmental standards and obtain approval from local authorities before proceeding.

Fair Operating Practices

Our company conducts fair and equitable transactions with all business partners, based on the procurement policy of our parent company, Yokohama Rubber.
We particularly emphasize building trusting relationships with our raw material suppliers, visiting them regularly to maintain and strengthen these relationships. During these visits, in addition to sharing our CSR principles and ethical sourcing standards, we also exchange information and opinions about on-site conditions and challenges, deepening mutual understanding.
We will continue to work towards achieving a transparent supply chain and building a sustainable procurement system based on equal partnerships.

Promoting agroforestry

Agroforestry is a mixed-cropping method where other crops are grown between rubber trees, allowing for the harvest of fruits and vegetables in addition to natural rubber latex. This allows small-scale farmers to diversify their income sources and build more stable livelihoods.
Y.T. Rubber actively promotes this agroforestry method, positioning it as a sustainable agricultural model that not only stabilizes the management of small-scale farms but also contributes to biodiversity conservation and forest protection.
Starting in 2024, we began growing seedlings of high-value fruits like durian and mango from seed in-house and providing them free of charge to interested farmers. This strengthens agroforestry as an initiative that goes beyond simple intercropping and has the potential to further enhance the profitability of farmers.
Furthermore, we collaborate with university experts researching this field, providing seedlings to our managed test farm and validating cultivation techniques.
For seedling cultivation, we carefully perform every step ourselves, from collecting and selecting seeds to preparing the soil and making seedling pots, while utilizing native vegetation from the region.
In 2024, we were able to provide over 28,000 tree and fruit tree seedlings to local schools, public facilities, farmers, and individuals, and have received high praise from many.

CSR Farmers Survey

Since 2020, our company has been continuously conducting farmer surveys to accurately understand the realities of natural rubber production sites, in line with Yokohama Rubber's goal of achieving sustainable natural rubber procurement.
By the end of 2024, we had visited over 860 farmers in total, carefully examining their farm operations, harvesting conditions, and living infrastructure. In addition, from a compliance perspective, we also carefully verified on-site conditions, including the presence of child labor, working conditions, and employment arrangements.
In particular, we found that some farmers employing Myanmar workers lacked proper labor contracts. To address this, we provide a contract template developed by our company based on advice from the Labor Bureau as a reference material during our visits, emphasizing the importance of contracts. Through these activities, we have begun initiatives that link to human rights due diligence efforts.
The information obtained from these surveys is reflected in revisions to our procurement policies and the planning of support measures, forming the foundation for building a responsible supply chain.

Awareness-raising and support activities for natural rubber farmers

Based on the on-site challenges identified through our farmer surveys, our company actively promotes awareness and support activities for natural rubber farmers. In particular, we partner with RAOT (Rubber Authority of Thailand), under the Thai Ministry of Agriculture, to regularly hold technical seminars for small-scale farmers.
The seminars include expert lectures on optimizing fertilization, improving quality, and increasing yields. Our quality assurance department also emphasizes the importance of preventing foreign object contamination, enhancing their understanding of the quality of supplied raw materials.
Over 100 farmers participate in these seminars annually, and many attendees report increased awareness of the importance of 'quality' and 'fertilizer management.
RAOT also provides free distribution of a non-commercial 'special fertilizer' that they uniquely formulated, and we continuously verify its effectiveness through analysis of the cup lump rubber raw material submitted by the participating farmers.
Furthermore, we distribute YOKOHAMA-branded caps and polo shirts to all participants, fostering brand affinity and strengthening our relationship of trust with the local community.

Consumer Issues

Our company implements rigorous quality control for all products, based on a quality management system compliant with ISO 9001.
Our products are supplied to the Yokohama Rubber Group, our parent company, and are required to be of high quality as they are critical raw materials directly impacting the quality of their products.
To maintain trust within the group and contribute to achieving quality goals, we continuously pursue daily improvement activities, aiming for 'zero claims.
We work to prevent defects, investigate causes, and prevent recurrence, while utilizing feedback and quality data from Yokohama Rubber to create more reliable products.

Community Involvement and Development

Our company values its relationship of trust with the local community and aims to contribute to regional development through continuous dialogue and cooperation.
We participate in monthly local community meetings to exchange opinions on environmental conservation and community initiatives, while also providing opportunities to deepen understanding of our company's social contributions.
We also regularly attend meetings with neighboring businesses and public institutions (schools, hospitals, temples, etc.) to exchange information and cooperate with local public welfare activities through donations and other means.
Employees participate as volunteers in local tree-planting activities and sports events, and we support community revitalization through sponsorships.
Furthermore, when flood damage occurred in villages around our factory, we provided emergency relief supplies such as drinking water and rice to all affected households in the two adjacent villages, earning the gratitude of the local people. Through these efforts, our company, as a 'community-open enterprise,' is aware of being a member of the local community and values the attitude of developing together.
Through these efforts, our company, as a 'community-open enterprise,' recognizes its role as part of the local community and values a commitment to mutual growth.
