Tokyo - The Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd. announced today that in March it will release an ultra wide base drive tire, the "TY517," and trailer tire, the "RY407," for the North American market. Both are characterized by enhanced wear resistance thanks to a new belt structure - "SPIRALOOP." Both will be available in size 445/50R22.5, load range “L.” These tires for trucks and buses mark the first time YOKOHAMA will officially release an ultra wide base tire for an overseas market.

In the North American market, the demand for ultra wide base tire is increasing. Fitted alone in place of dual tires, they improve transport efficiency. The "TY517" and "RY407" both can be fitted alone where two tires are normally required, reducing the weight of tires and wheels, as well as overall tire width. This can increase the amount of cargo that may be carried, a major factor in overall transport efficiency.

The "TY517" and "RY407" incorporate new technology including "SPIRALOOP" and a new concept in carcass profile. The result is not only improved durability but more-even wear, contributing to longer tire life. In addition, "SPIRALOOP" helps reduce rolling resistance, which in turn helps lower fuel consumption.

The "TY517" and "RY407" are part of Yokohama's commitment to make high-value-added products globally, as stated in Phase III (January 2012 - December 2014) of its Grand Design 100 (GD100) Medium-Term Management Plan.
