2017 SUPER FORMULA PLAYBACK (3)

In 2017 SUPER FORMULA season, several foreign drivers were at the center of attention. Especially, the new comers Pierre Gasly and Felix Rosenqvist drew a lot of attention, not only in Japan and Asian countries but from European motor racing communities, as the Frenchman promoted to Formula One in the same year, while the Swede was a two times Macau GP winner. Here are a few words from them.

Pierre Gasly – TEAM MUGEN

Hi everyone, it’s Pierre Gasly, a quick look back on my 2017 SUPER FORMULA season, it was a great challenge for me to come in Japan for my first time to race in SUPER FORMULA.

First time for me to drive the SUPER FORMULA car, and to drive with Yokohama tyres. I had a great feeling straight at the beginning for the first test in Suzuka. I had to learn & adapt a little bit to the tyres as it was different to my previous experiences.

I would say, I was really surprise in a good way with the grip of the tyres and the low degradation.

I really enjoyed the Softer compound we had in Motegi & Autopolis, more grip is always better, but also maybe because we won the 2 races.

It was a very good experience this season, that will be useful for my career and I’ll keep great memories with me.

Felix Rosenqvist – SUNOCO TEAM LEMANS

Q : What and how you think about yourself after you finished this season for SUPER FORMULA.

A : I was overall happy about my performance in SUPER FORMULA, which was a new experience for me in terms of car, tracks and team. I think we improved a lot during the season, and we we’re almost able to go for the first in the championship. It was fun, and I learned a lot – hopefully I can race in Japan again next year!

Q : What do think about Yokohama tire. How you felt about Yokohama tire.

A : I think the tyres were good in the sense that they last very well in the race, so you can push a lot. The softer compound was more interesting in terms of strategy and also in terms of driving. I think the harder tyre you have to under-drive a lot to be quick, and its not so interesting for qualifying. I hope they keep the softer tyre, and maybe another compound on top of that even softer.
