Hiratsuka, Japan—The Yokohama Rubber Co., Ltd., announced today that it began supplying its "AVID GT" tires as original equipment (OE) for use on the new Nissan LEAF EV, launched in the U.S. in 2025. The tire size is 215/55R18 95H.

The AVID GT was developed by applying the basic design and material technologies featured in YOKOHAMA’s “environmentally, human, and socially friendly” BluEarth global tire brand to the AVID passenger car tire. The tire enhances the vehicle’s fuel and energy efficiency and wear resistance while providing superior drivability and safety. The AVID GT equipped on the new Nissan LEAF achieves superior handling stability and lighter weights based on an optimized tire profile and casing structure. Also, to achieve the highly quiet ride, an optimal pitch sequence was obtained using evolutionary computation (genetic algorithms), one of the technologies incorporated in HAICoLab.

HAICoLab aims to foster new discoveries and digital innovation by merging human inspiration and creativity with AI’s enormous data processing capability. This framework is applied in the development of the AVID GT through AI’s predict, analyze, and search functions using collected actual data and virtual data generated by simulations.

Beyond appealing to EV intenders, the new Nissan LEAF provides a compelling alternative for internal combustion engine (ICE) buyers with its significantly improved driving range, enhanced charging speed and a technology suite that makes daily driving easier and enriches owners’ lifestyles.

In addition to strengthening its marketing of tires to be used as OE on EVs, which require tires made using the most advanced technologies, Yokohama Rubber is utilizing the feedback received from EV makers in its development of replacement tires as it seeks to expand its product lineup and improve the performance of all its tires to meet new requirements in this era of dynamic change.
